news / 08.06.2014 Odell Beckham Jr. Close to Returning for Giants
Tom Coughlin said wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is nearly ready to get back on the field.
"It sounds like he's getting close," Coughlin said of the first-round pick who injured his hamstring in the first practice of training camp more than two weeks ago and hasn't taken a snap since. "They have him doing a lot of things, they're going to push him a little bit more today and then they're going to get a quarterback to throw to him and see how that goes, too. So he's getting closer."
Beckham has been on the field with the team in the last few practices, but mostly to field punts (without actually returning them) and catch passes from a machine. On Tuesday, we saw Beckham running for the first time, doing 100-yarders at what looked to be about half speed. He ran swerving S-shapes as well.
As for other injuries, Trindon Holliday seems to have taken the place of Beckham at the top of Coughlin's list of frustrating injuries.
"I wish Trindon Holliday were in the same boat," Coughlin said after addressing Beckham's progress. "It doesn't seem like he's quite as far along." Holliday is also dealing with a hamstring injury.
And guard Geoff Schwartz injured his knee in Sunday's game. He tried to practice on Tuesday but had to come out twice. He will not practice Wednesday. Rookie Weston Richburg will probably take his spot on the starting line.
